ATMA IN A NUTSHELL:

ATMA test held on Valentine’s Day was as sweet as the day. Probably this is the only test with sectional limits where each section has to be cracked in 30mins. And in total there are 6 sections, 2 from each area i.e MA, IRA and VCA. However there was no change in the pattern and it was very much expected that the test should be having two sections from each area and that there will be 30 questions each in all the four sections of MA and IRA and 25 questions in both the sections of VCA. In total there were 170 questions to be cracked in 3 hrs (180 mins.) In reasoning good amount of critical reasoning questions were asked. The test can be categorized as a moderate one with a few difficult or say time consuming questions. The only difficulty in the test is the management of time that is it is not easy to crack 30 questions in 30 mins. and sitting continuously for a stretch of 3 hrs. is highly taxing.

The questions of MA and IRA were easy to moderate, while the questions of VCA were moderate. Overall it was an easy to moderate test and therefore cutoffs are expected to be higher. On an average, 17-18 questions could easily be done in sections with 30 questions and around 15-16 questions could be attempted in sections with 25 questions. A total of 85-90 questions are going to be a good attempt while an attempt of 100+ will fetch 99+ percentile.

Data sufficiency questions were simple and based on arithmetic like x>y, and number system like divisibility rule etc.

There were 2 cases of 5 questions each. These type of cases are generally uncommon in MA section. The case of probability was based on traditional variety of number of balls of different colours and drawing 2, 3 or 4 balls of same colour or all different colours and so on.

The case of geometry was based on the following figure.

[pic 2]

The diameter of the outer circle was given as 28 and area, side of square and circumference of inscribed circle were asked. It could have been solved on higher priority than the single questions as it had 5 questions and al were easy.

The single questions were based on series, equations, ages, SI, comparison of fractions, etc and could be solved with very less calculations.

In the given time limit, 17-18 questions could easily be attempted.

All the 3 cases were very simple. In this section also 5 questions of Data sufficiency were given. The case of students seating around a circle could easily be done. There were 5 questions in which conditions were given and then to decide whether the students should be admitted, not admitted, or referred to director or chairman. These 2 varieties are quite common in Bank entrance exams. There were 5 questions based on critical reasoning.
