Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.
I know what you're thinking..."What a strange bible verse for Father's Day". Actually it is the perfect verse for the occasion. Raising kids today can turn the bravest and toughest men to jello.
As I raise my sons I realize what a frightening challenge I must have been to my father. I look back now at my green hair, black lipstick and dog collar worn as a necklace and think it's pretty amazing that my dad didn't run screaming into the night like his hair was on fire. I remember a lot of friction between us as he pointed out the way I should go while I continually tried to veer off to the left into on-coming traffic. I remember exasperated looks and sighs. I remember him wearily shaking his head at me. But I also remember my dad scooping me up and loving me even in my resolve to be unlovable. I remember the look of pride on his face when I finally came to the right decision on my own. I remember the prayers and the lessons. My Dad became my first example of God's determination to love me and to give me what is good for me.
Dads, there is hope to be found today. No matter the situation. No matter the circumstances. " ...for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you."
