MY MOTIVES

Creative Problem Solving Styles

The first skill i chose for self-assessment is creative problem solving styles. As a person with high analytical thinking ability, I always like to bring creative solutions to problems. I try to look at things different from most of other people. Because i always know that i am smarter than most of the people in that room, maybe the smartest. For example when there is an accident or something that has been done wrong in the workplace, I always ask 'why' first, understand the reason and then i can move on from there and find a solution easier. Most of people tend to ask 'who did it' . There is a common six-step model that i always use;

1- Identify the challenge or the goal

2- Gather the data about the task

3- Problem Finding ( make sure which areas need to be solved to achieve the goal )

4- Idea Finding ( find the specific ideas for the solutions and review them )

5- Solution Finding ( move from ideas to solution )

6- Put your solutions in action in a well-planned way.

When you follow these steps, it is easier to create a path to solution. For the idea finding part of this process, mostly the best thing to do is brainstorming. When i face a problem awaiting for a solution, i always grab a pen and write down the possible solutions and i sometimes collaborate with a friend of mine who is capable of contributing, so that way i or we can assess the solutions beter and faster, we can look at the advantages,disadvantages,risks. Then i can apply the solution to the problem with more knowledge and confidence.

Handling Conflict

Handling conflict is another area that i am pretty strong at. Due to my calm nature and ability to understand the differences between people about the ways they are thinking or acting, i can always find a beter solution that everybody goes along with. To make it happen, first of all i always approach conflicts with an open mind with questions in my head like 'why he is thinking like that' or 'what makes him do that'. So i can easily understand the point of view of the counterparty. I can easily understand what might have caused the conflict too. So when you look at these different aspects of the problem, you speak to the people with more respect and understanding. Not that i am a conflict avoider but i always try to spend less time to conflicts, i quickly talk to the person about the conflict and see if we can solve the problem together. I always listen to the problem or the reason carefully so i can bring agreement to the table. Like i said in creative problem solving before, i always ask the question 'why'
