Persuasive messages are displayed throughout advertisements, commercials, and billboards. Composers use different tools to let the viewer or the reader have a better understanding of what the messages is portraying. The image that I choose is portraying a matter of how McDonalds are cruel to chickens. McDonalds is one of the largest fast food chains in the world. Children all over the world love their food, especially their chicken nuggets. Peta is one of the largest animal rights organizations in the world who are against McDonalds killing innocent chickens for the love of a chicken nugget.

The image chosen shows a sense of anger and rage. There is a chicken with their finger waving in the air warning people of the cruelty. The image says "Every year millions of chickens are sandaled to death for McDonald's nuggets" ("The History of McDonalds Cruelty"). This is a fact. "At the McDonald's U.S. and Canadian chicken suppliers, birds are dumped out of their transport crates and hung upside down in metal shackles, which can result in broken bones and hemorrhaging" ("The History of McDonalds Cruelty"). It is so crazy just to actually imagine the sight of how these birds were treated. "Birds are immersed in tanks of hot water while they are still alive."("The History of McDonalds Cruelty"). Cruelty is just not acceptable no matter who you are and who you are being cruel to. Some may feel this same way but others may not. The composer of this image automatically creates argument and debate.

Peta uses the rhetorical strategies to better understand the image's audience, the purpose and the context. If anyone just glances at this image and see the McDonalds logo they would immediately be drawn to see what it is about. The composer of this image decided to use different colors to attract the eye, and the chicken to support the main idea. The way you take it is up to you. The composer states how the company feels and how cruel that they believe the restaurant is. Many people are actually against this cruelty and actually are with Peta. Actually being educated about this abuse and learning about it makes you want to make a change. It makes you want to do whatever it takes to save these innocent animals.

The pathos are to shift the audience response. The company name was printed on the actual image to give them credibility. Apparently, they are sticking up for their claim. They show that the chicken is anger and full of rage. The chicken plays the most important role. By using this chicken it makes the viewer better understanding how unusual this punishment is. Sinks are placed in the image because of the fact that it says "Wash your hands your hands of McCruelty"; which basically means that everyone that is committing this crime should wash their hands. The setting is set in this image.

The way that the composer decided to set up the image tends to change the viewer's opinion and reaction. When I first viewed the image I thought that it was funny. Only because I actually love McDonald's chicken nuggets
