Nutrition and Crohn's Disease
What to expect: diarrhea, lactose intolerance and kidney stones are possible.
How to eat:
1. Drink plenty of fluids.
2. EAT!
3. Avoid greasy, fatty, and fried foods.
4. Avoid seasonings if not tolerated.
5. Use low fat meats and "no-fat" margarine and salad dressings.
6. Limit intake of milk and milk products to 2 servings per day, use skim milk.
7. Eat high fiber, whole grain breads and cereals, if tolerated.
8. Use fresh, frozen, or canned vegetables prepared without fats, oil, or oil containing sauces.
9. Avoid all chocolate containing foods, candy made with cream, cocoa fat, nuts, and coconut.
10. Chew foods well and avoid swallowing air.
11. Eat small, frequent meals.
12. Talk with MD about vitamin supplementation.

* Limit sugary foods: These include sugar, honey, syrup, regular jam or jelly, candy sweet rolls, fruit canned in syrup, regular gelatin or pudding, cake with icing, pies or other sweets, frosted foods, sweetened beverages (e.g., soda).
