Overview of St. Mary's Hospital

In the year 1872, Mother Mary Odilia Berger and four of her companion sisters came to St. Louis, Missouri, during the smallpox outbreak. When they came from Germany, they sisters know their mission and it was to serve God by caring for the poor and the sick. About forty years late, eight more sisters followed Mother Odilia's mission. The eight sisters came to Wisconsin for the request of several physicians and local clergy from Madison. The request was to establish a "Sister's Hospital" in the Madison area. With lot of hard work and dedication, the eight sisters, four physicians, and four nurses created a seventy-five-bed hospital and opened St. Mary's Hospital on September 11, 1912. Till this day St. Mary's Hospital stayed faithful to the original mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary by giving the best care to anyone who walks through the doors of St. Mary's Hospital (St. Mary's Hospital 2011).

Now St. Mary's Hospital has eight floors on the southwest wing and five floors on the east wing. There is also an outpatient center that is connected by the skywalk to the hospital. There is even an additional Emergency Services that was created in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and this was to expand their services. Next year on September 1, 2012, St. Mary's Hospital will be one hundred years old and still going strong providing exceptional care to all their patients (St. Mary's Hospital 2011).

North Metro Medical Center has been serving Jacksonville, Arkansas for about forty-six years. Before the hospital was named North Metro Medical Center, it was named Rebsamen Medical Center. The reason for the name change was to get rid of their bad reputation that was given to the hospital. North Metro Medical Center is a very small community hospital that only has one-hundered thirteen beds throughout the hospital. With the new fresh start and a new name the hospital was trying to create a new image (North Metro Medical Center 2011).

St. Mary's Hospital Hierarchical Organization

In this graph there are lower management positions and staffing position, but there is so many it would be hard to keep track of to where it belongs under each hierarchical graph. Since it is a larger hospital it will have more positions to run this hospital. For this hospital the hierarchical works wonderfully because it connect to St. Mary's System down to St. Louis, Missouri. The hospital is very large and each of these positions help run the hospital smoothly and this is how a chain of command should work. The work environment is very friendly and stress-free (St. Mary's Hospital 2011).
