St. Paul's Life
Paul the Apostle was known as Saul, Known as Saul to the Jews, as Paul to the Gentiles. Paul was born an Israelite in Tarsus the capital of Cilicia. Paul was circumcised on the eighth day. Paul was a Roman citizen by patrimony and Paul belonged to the tribe of Benjamin. Paul was born A.D. 5 -10 during the reign of the great Augustus. Paul went to school in Jerusalem, Paul knew tent making. Every Pharisee had to teach his son a trade by which he could live. At about age 14, he was sent to Jerusalem to the school of Gamaliel. Paul was present at Stephen's stoning. Paul becomes a persecutor of Christians.
Paul had a conversion on the Road to Damascus with Jesus. Paul sees a bright light so Jesus tells Paul: "Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: hard for thee to kick against the pricks." Paul said, "Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do." And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought [him] into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.
Paul goes to Damascus then he travels to Arabia and remains there. Paul returns to Damascus then exits the city for safety. Then Paul goes up to Jerusalem. Barnabas travels to Tarsus in order to seek Saul. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel. Paul preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. Agabus prophesies a famine. Aid sent to Jerusalem through Barnabas and Saul. Barnabas and Saul return with John Mark. Barnabas and Saul "separated" and sent out. They travel from Antioch to Seleucia, the two Cyprus. While on Cyprus they go to Salamis and Paphos. From Paphos they go to Perga of Pamphylia where John Mark departs for home.
