Today's Generation
If you had to define today's generation with one word, what would it be? We are the generation of so much, from 911 to Facebook. We go big and we are passionate. Some are sheltered and live in virtual reality, and some are out exploring and partying every weekend. In a time of a lot of question one things for sure, our generation is different than any generation before us.
In 2008 President Barrack Obama was elected into office and America saw its first African-American president. He wasn't elected into office because of his presidential skills, he was elected because America wanted change. The highest percent of young Americans voted and it showed in the polls. Today's youth wants change and that's exactly what they got with President Obama. It's easy to want change because we are living in a hard economic time and a lot of people have had to make a lot of sacrifices. One Christmas my mom told me my father was laid off work and I shouldn't expect much for presents. This was the first time the recession affected me and I remember watching the news thinking, Na this won't affect me, I'm in Jr. High School. Well as a young American I can agree I want change for this country. I would have voted for President Obama, if I was old enough, and I would have loved to been a part of history.
Yes at first our generation seems a little weird, but what we share about our generation is the ability to question everything. We wonder, why do we have to follow our parents? We want knowledge of things people have never tried and we want to be the first to start a trend. We have the typicall "I don't care" attitude and we don't care who sees it. My grandfather came from a time where if you wanted something, you earned it. We come from a time where, if you think of something different, you embrace it.
In high school as a freshman we have these beliefs from society that we need to act a certain way, talk a certain way, and walk a certain way. Well we started questioning these ways and thought, why? Why do we need a 65 dollar pair of jeans compared to a 20 dollar pair? So we made our own style and embraced it. We don't care about society and we do things that would make other generations mad. We challenge the rule of our parents and are confident enough to make it on our own. We don't just jump over something on television, we jump over it while it's burning and have two other cars jump over it in opposite direction. We go bigger and harder than our parents did and have hangovers at school. No we get fucked up at school. Then go to football practice. We are the Wild Generation. We take anything and everything to the next level and love to do it. This is the youth of today and this is why the generation of today is the history making generation.
