Where I'm From Poem
I am from softballs
From bats and gloves
I am from the small creek by school
(Feeling the cool water beneath my feet)
I am from the pine tree
The small swing set outside
Whose chains have rusted into almost nothing
I am from home-cooked meals and puzzles
From Allen and McKeown
I'm from the do-your-best's
And the we're proud of you's
From study hard and do your homework
I'm from the small parish next to school
Where I've been singing for almost ten years
I'm from America and Ireland
Pizza and Irish step-dancing
From my hardworking grandfather
To the laid back, laziness called my dad
In the old attic above the family computer
Behind all the musty blankets and pillows
I find pictures, signs, reminders; of what is and what used to be
