Linda and Charlie Bloom, authors of 101 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Got Married novel, explains and elaborates on simple lessons to making love last. The two chapters selected are Chapter 29: Love isn’t just a feeling; it’s an action that shows our caring, and Chapter
In the Chapter 29, it discusses on how the actions we make show our love more than how we feel. Often times, partners complain that they are feeling unloved and unwanted due to lack of action. While one partner feels that their love is evident, the receiving partner may not feel the same way. Love is a personal thing. It is something that you fight for each day, and it’s the reason why you have to see results in order to believe the words others say. Some people do not need the words ‘I love you,’ to feel loved, they need to see it through their partner’s actions. In the best relationships, both partners know each other in such intimate detail that they know the things that fill each other’s love tank.
I know exactly what makes my partner feel loved so I make the conscious effort to do so. I also know that the love I give out will return to me multiplied. This is not a selfish thing. It is about being aware that as people, we are mirrors, and we treat people the same way as we treat ourselves. So, if we are showing love to ourselves and our partners, it will radiate out of all that we do, and we will be surrounded by positive, loving energy coming from all directions.
In a friendship, the love I receive is through action. In one instance, in the beginning of this semester, I had a meeting that I needed to attend late at night. After a long day at school and working, I did not have time to make a proper dinner when I returned home. I ended up having yogurt and fruits. My roommate saw that I was not eating a full meal, and offered to cook me chicken and vegetables prior to my meeting. In a romantic relationship, I have a male friend who lives in England. During my study abroad experience, I was spending time quite a bit of time with him. After a year of studying abroad, I returned home to America. He wanted to spend time with me again, so he booked a ticket to fly to America to see me at the end of the year. The little things that each individual does for me, is a gesture of love to me, even if the words are not said.
