Abstract
This study revealed the effectiveness of current performance management system(PMS) at STO. Data was collected using a questionnaire specially designed for this survey. Results from this survey revealed that employees of STO are overall satisfied with their currently existing performance management system. However, there are some amendments recommended by a participant to allow improving employee performance at STO. This study also determined barrier to effective employee performance. Hence, this study is overall a successful survey as it helped me avail basic information for improving current PMS at STO and this can provide guidance for employees to concentrate on personal development.

1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background
State Trading Organization Plc. (STO), is the company which formed in 1964 and the company is leading in retailing and wholesaling goods and services around the Maldives, including gas, oil, construction materials, home appliances, electronics, supermarket items, pharmaceutical items and staple foods. Currently, STO has more than 2000 employees working in the Maldives (STO, 2017). Departments or functions of STO includes human resource, finance, legal, information technology and procurement which are centralized at Male’ STO Head Office. Other functions such as regional sales, constructions, Medical, and supermarket are located in Trade Centre building in Male.
