Dear Mr. Future Professor
My name is Dat Nguyen, and I am going to take your History course next quarter. I am writing this letter to you because I need your help. I have been through two quarter at SCC, and I have prepared for myself six valuable skills: brainstorming, outlining, revising, seeing, revising for grammar and style, and publishing. I believe I can succeed further in my computer science field with your help.
Brainstorming is one of my strongest skill, and I always come up with creative ways to solve problems. I have never got trouble when doing research, because brainstorming helps me gathering information very fast from various sources. I like to look up for new ideas every day, and this skill saves me a lot of time. Last time, I had an exam that required me to write a paper about “how to do something”. I was delay and I knew I could not finish a specific topic on one day. Therefore I wrote a paper about how to write an essay for the topic that was given.
But the knowledge I have obtained are not very original (borrowing facts from other sources), therefore, I think taking your History course will improve my brainstorming skill. Also, history requires the accuracy of statistics in research, and it will consume a lot of time if I do not know how to follow the right step. However, by improving the brainstorming skill will make Computer Science become easier for me if I know how to follow its developments in the past.
The next skill I have learned, is outlining. I used to hate doing outlines before, but since I finished senior year in high school. I realized outlining is also important. I am still improving the skill, and outlining helps me a lot when I put my ideas together. I wrote down the topic on a paper, then I draw lines and circles. Afterwards, I wrote any ideas and details I could collect from the source I read. However, this is still the weakest link of mine that I am worried, therefore I decided to take your History course. I know History require time lines and organized contents, and learning History can help me organize science works more efficient
Also, I always revise the content of my papers before turning them in for grades. I see myself as a perfectionist, and I always got trouble with fixing ideas. But then I came to my previous professors every time for their advices. I also brought my papers to my ELL teachers from high school because they knew my writing very well and they knew what was needed to revise. It would be more wonderful if I can have your advice because you have been through the college time like me. I would really appreciate your help.
