Alcoholism
Alcoholism, what is alcoholism? Dictionary defines alcoholism as "a chronic disorder characterized by dependence on alcohol", but is that all there is to alcoholism? The answer is no. Alcohol can destroy a person completely and also people around the person that alcohol is destroying. Alcohol can harm a person emotionally, physically, and socially. There is a lot more to alcoholism than a disorder of dependence on alcohol, alcohol is also a dangerous weapon that can take away the live of anyone fallen to it.
Alcohol could do much more than a person thinks it can. Research shows that women drinking alcohol as little as one drink per day boosted their risk of having cancer of the breast, liver, rectum, throat, mouth, and esophagus. Other studies done by researchers show that alcohol and heart health has a positive relationship. A group of scientists rated alcohol the most harmful overall and almost three times as harmful as cocaine or tobacco. Professor David Nutt, chairman of the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs says the "Ecstasy is only an eighth as harmful as alcohol". Based on the results from the analysis made on alcohol by the scientist, most scientists agreed that alcohol is a very harmful drug, but health is not the only thing that alcohol ruins. Alcohol also tears apart relations. Many psychological and sociological studies have shown that people with alcohol issues are more likely to divorce than sober couples. Alcohol also has an effect on domestic violence, legal disputes, financial struggles, unemployment and sexual performance issues. As we see, the results shown by the studies show way more in alcohol than just a chronic disorder characterized by dependence on alcohol, it is one of the deadliest drug that people experience.
