Alexander McQueen

He was known as a bad boy and rebellion in the fashion industry, as he was able to interpret often antique themes in a futuristic way like no one else. Always one-step ahead! Always the next level! Always provocative! Alexander McQueen was found dead at the tender age of 40 in his London home on February 11, 2010. He was always one of my favorite fashion designers. His conceptual and artistic approach made me fall in love with his runway fashion. A mixture of the macabre, fairytale, fashion, and punk, McQueen's work had been true poetry in motion. I had always hoped to see one of his live shows, a spectacle with a twist of irony, perhaps a little dark but often with an element of fun and cheekiness, and always with a message to convey, and a statement to make.

McQueen was a genius in the fashion industry. He was one of the youngest designers to achieve the title "British Designer of the Year," which he won four times. Queen Elizabeth the Second honored him in recognition of his lifetime achievement. His razor-sharp tailored looks fused the romantic with the edgy avant-garde, a fresh contrast that won international acclaim and was treasured by stylish women around the globe like Naomi Campbell, Sandra Bullock, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and many more.

Alexander McQueen was known for pushing the envelope. His runway shows were often like performance pieces. Each piece was a story; the texture and color mixes were poetry. McQueen not only mirrored some of the fairy-tail themes, but also brought drama and extravagance to the catwalk. He could never stop himself from obsessing over the dark side of beauty, like a little boy turning over a ladybird to examine the black and wriggling legs underneath. At London show, the audience was seated around a mirrored cube, which turned transparent so they could see models on a padded white floor, while the models could see only their reflections.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour called McQueen "one of the greatest talents of his generation," and some people call him "the King of fashion." The fashion world not only lost one of its greatest talents, but also a beloved son, thoughtful brother, and devoted friend. We will miss Alexander McQueen whose antics and originality will never be forgotten.
