I disagree with the statement that the American family does not exist . It is a long the line of what is normal. America is a melting pot. People come from every where , different religion , up bringing and culture. As times change so does peoples views on different things. If you were to research what the traditional American family you would get different answer today. Just as the era changes so does the people who live in it. I think that everyone has a different view on American family so there is no one true answer. There can be a majority answer but to have on set answer everyone has to agree and that wont happen. People have their own beliefs and thoughts. I do agree with the rest of the statement . Nothing is set in stone or there would not be a history in ones life . One of the more traditional views is that a mother stays home and cleans the house and tends to the children while the father works. But after the muckrakers women are not only seen that way today. In fact many women today hold very powerful and important roles in society today. Also so families due to the recession need both parents to work so that ends can meet. There also single parent households for whatever the reason may be that have to work to support and care for their child. I think that as long as one is happy and successful in their "American Family" that is all that matters.
