o What is the issue (briefly)? Is this a local, state or national issue?

o The issue is the American Jobs Act, which President Obama is currently trying to pass right now. This is a national issue as it affects 400,000 education jobs country wide. The American Jobs Act is a bill that will prevent up to 280,000 jobs in education to be lost.

o What branch(es) of government is/are involved? In what way is each branch involved? This refers to the legislative, executive and/or judicial branches.

o Legislative branch, where it would have to move through our bicameral legislature consisting of the house and senate. Since the American Jobs Act is a bill, to be passed it would have to go through the House of Representatives, and the Senate. It would also have to go through the executive branch because the President has the option to veto or pass the bill into law. This is where our system of checks and balances come into effect. It makes sure that there is no way a bill can be pushed straight through congress.

o What communities are affected? How are they affected?

o All communities will be affected by the American Jobs Act because the bill will affect the education sector around the United States. This bill supports 400,000 jobs country wide, and 40,000 jobs Texas wide. President Obama said, "Congress should pass this jobs bill so we can put our teachers back in the classroom where they belong." If this is passed we can continue to educate the children of America, and America will not continue to be passed by other countries in education.

o Why is this issue newsworthy or important? How might it affect you?

o This issue is newsworthy because if it is not passed it is possible that 280,000 jobs of our hard working underpaid teachers could be losing their jobs due to the bad economy. If we lose teachers America will fall because there will be no one to educate the youth. This includes me because my children will be going to school in the United States. Not to mention that I am still going through higher education. If we lose teachers then classes will probably go up in cost.

o What is your opinion/perspective on the issue?

o My opinion on this issue is it should be passed because teachers are the foundation of America and without them there will be no way that America can function and continue to thrive. If there are 280,000 jobs lost then there will be no one to educate American youth and the future of the United States will be in the hands of an undereducated America.

o What could you do to give voice to your opinion?

o Since we live in America, where we have a representative democracy, I could vote for
