Andy Warhol
Andrew Warhola, Jr. born August 6th, 1928, died February 22, 1987. Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His parents were emigrants from Russia, although he was born in the states and was raised in the states. He was the youngest of four children.
In the 1930's a big historical event that was the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl, which led into the Great Depression. Economics became a very big deal during this time as well. As a child he was very sick at times and was bed ridden for a period of his childhood. He became an outcast at school. At this point he became very close to his mother. During this time when he would stay home he would draw, listen to the radio and collect photos of movie stars, and collect them next to his bed. One reason he became the artist he was. In 1949 Warhol changed his name from Warhola to sort of set his name in the art world. June 3rd 1968 he was shot by Valerie Solanas. After the shooting many things in his life changed.
Warhols more famous pieces is the Campbell Soup Cans. It was first published in 1962, it is 20" by 16". It's a signature piece of his. Muriel Latow is who came up with the idea for both the Soup Cans pieces. The painting now can be found in the Andy Warhol Museum in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The way he uses the elements of art are different with this piece. It's not like a normal art piece. He uses shape by having several different pieces in one. Warhol uses shapes by having all the art works as the same size all made together as a big one. Color is used by showing the brightness of the reds. The lines all run horizontally and vertically. He uses value by having the pieces all being equal in color and shading. He uses texture in the Campbell Soup Cans.
Warhol uses great rhythm by having everything equal to each other and is not uneven. The balance goes with the evenness and also the rhythm helps that out too. The art piece shows no signs of unbalanced distribution throughout the piece.
The piece to me is very intriguing. I can still remember being young and when I saw this. That shows it has something to it that people will not just look over it. All of his art is like this. It's very memorable, something that meant a lot to him. That is one reason I chose to do my paper over him cause he's a great artist with great quality.
