Annual World Series
The Ottawa University baseball team began their annual world series October 31, 2011 on the Orlis Cox Field in Ottawa, KS. Each game in the series will take place at 4:30 p.m. and will be played all this week.
The series will be a total of 5 games expecting to run from the 31st of October through the 4th of November.
"It is an intersquad world series, separating our team into two teams (Team Black vs Team Gold)," said Head Baseball Coach Joe Reed.
There was a players draft to select the teams, choosing Spenser Augustine for Team Gold and Allan Bleich for Team Black.
Game one was won Monday by Team Gold but Team Black came back on Tuesday with a 9-6 victory to even out the series. Team Gold was unable to maintain the lead as the came grew to a close.
"We started off slow in the first game but came back and got the win in game two," said Allan Bleich.
Bleich adds, Team Black has really good chemistry on the field and just have to keep playing solid defense.
"We feel confident that are going to win because Team Black has much talent," said Kyle Pener.
To back up Pener's opinion Bleich added, I expect us to win because I believe we have the hitters and pitchers to beat Team Gold.
Team Black has confidence that each player will do their job on the field to earn victories to sweep Team Gold in the series.
Although there's really nothing major for the winning team such as a trophy, they will get bragaining rights after the series but Coach Reed says that the losing team will get to run.
