The article discus's the new threat of malware and how it can affect the older operating systems. It also explains how the attack scenario works to get the user to double click the object to open it when this is done the malware executes its payload on the end user machine. Windows Update: Make sure that your machine is updated with the latest security updates from Microsoft this is the first step in protecting your machine against malware.
Anti-virus: Make sure you have a good and UPDATED anti-virus program.
Firewall: There are two types of firewalls one being a hardware firewall these types are normally built into a router if you have this type of device make sure you enable the firewall. Another type is a software firewall you can either use a third party firewall or with the more recent versions of windows they have the windows firewall built in.
Antispyware tools: Install onto your machine some kind of antispyware protection such as malwarebytes.
Active X: Adjust your active X security settings and disable certain active x components and set to ask for other to prompt this will help in not letting any unapproved active x components from running.
Browser: In the event of malware hijacking your browser always has a backup browser installed such as Mozilla, google chrome etc. This will give you an avenue to get to the internet in the event your internet explorer becomes unstable.
All in all it is pretty much up to the end user to make sure your computer is protected against today's malware threats. Also one needs to be extra careful in the websites that they visit and the things that they may install in their machines.
