When I first read this chapter my grandparents immediately came to mind. At first glance I was going to stick this in the gender stereotypes section. But after further consideration I decided to talk about solely my grandfather and his struggles with personal stereotypes. When you first hear the word stereotype it is always so ugly, but not so much in my situation. When my grandparents visited me last year I went into culture shock to find out all my grandma does for my grandpa. Each morning she wakes up before him to start cooking him breakfast, getting his paper, even laying out his clothes. I talked to her many of times asking her why does she do all this grandpa is a grown man. She then explained to me that Grandpa is old and this is how he was brought up.

He grew up watching his mother do all this for her husband so now I feel he has a personal stereotype of what a woman should be.

I enjoyed reading all the sections on Tran sexuality and gender identity. I have also known many of these concepts but never really got to read about them scientifically. I remember being a young child with an even younger brother. Many bored afternoons I would dress him up in my life size doll clothes, even go as far to do his makeup. I would show my mother and she would laugh

But tell me that I should not be doing that. One afternoon I was dressing him up as usual, but this time my father was home. When he saw what I had done to his son he became very angry with me and told me this is nothing something you do to a young child. I did not understand at the time, but as I grew up I realize now how impressionable a young child's mine is and this probably wasn't the best message for me to be sending.

I defiantly agreed with the research done in the nonverbal communication section. The study states that women are actually better at decoding nonverbal communication than men. This is something I defiantly agree with. I have been in the position many of times around my boyfriend or brothers when they have poked fun at someone calling
