Hospital Glow Run lights up possibilities for Moffat County

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is taken seriously by many people across the USA. NBCAM started in 1985 by the American Cancer Society, and takes place the whole month of October. In Craig, Colorado, they have a lot of events and fundraisers for NBCAM. They started the month out with a night glow run fundraiser. The community pulled together to show their support for those who have breast cancer.

The people in this community all came together and showed support by having a fundraiser. They paid to participate in the run, and that money went to the Moffat County Cancer Society. Everybody got glow sticks and ran five miles together at night. By coming together for one night and taking part in this, they showed support to those who have breast cancer. Many did it to support family members or close friends. I think showing support is very important and comforting to those who do have breast cancer.

The symbol for NBCAM is a pink ribbon, or the color pink in general. At the Hospital Glow Run, the color pink was on everybody. Women at the Glow Run called themselves either the Pink Ladies or Pink Power. At the start line, they had pink balloons with LED lights in them to make them glow. Having pink every wear let people know why they were running- breast cancer awareness! Having a specific color for NBCAM is a great idea to make the event known by every body.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also to inform other women to be educated about breast cancer. Women forget about breast cancer, and having this event once a year reminds them to check themselves. NBCAM probably saves a lot of people. When the month of October comes and everybody is talking about it, women go get checked just to be sure. If it weren’t for this event, a lot of women wouldn’t get checked. What if they did have breast cancer? This event makes me very grateful.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a very important and serious month to a lot of people. This isn’t just in Craig, it’s world wide. It makes people come together to root for each other, like they did in Craig. Wearing pink is also a way to show that you care. NBCAM makes other women aware that they could also get breast cancer, and should go get checked just in case. Communities every where should continue to hold events like this one to raise awareness and show support.
