Subsequently, when considering a job offer, the benefits and services is also very important to me. With the recent change in health care, I would be looking for benefits that again, suit me in the current position I am. If the benefits are not worth the offer, then I could consider going it alone and absorbing the costs. But again, benefits are not just the health side of it, but include preventive incentives and the lists goes on. Finally, the incentives that would seal the deal for me is offers of flex-time, tuition reimbursement and the paid time off (vacation and sick time) is imperative. Again, keeping in mind that I am accepting the job not just for my benefit.
Kimberly,
I agree with you that it is important to look at the entire offer as one package. Sometimes it is hard to dissect what element in the package is more important. One of the main reasons is that the lifestyle changes over the years. Thanks for sharing what is important for you these days and the logic behind your decisions. I totally agree with you that when we say benefit package, it is not just healthcare benefits. Some of the other benefits include elder care benefits, employee discounts, and wellness benefits, counseling programs, pension plans and flexible time benefits. Most of the time, employees are not aware of the different types of benefits other than pension plan and healthcare plans. For example, consolidated omnibus budget reconciliation act (COBRA) in some organizations allows their employees to be still on the healthcare insurance even after they leave the job (Hamilton, 2015). I have come across several patients stating that they do not have insurance and they just lost their job. It is important for these patients to look over their benefits and apply for COBRA right away because it has certain time limit since the employee left the organization. Great post.
