Truths about Themselves
Three characters that decide to admit the truth to themselves in Blood is Thicker are Hakeem, Savon, and Anika. They all experienced changes, especially in their personalities. They all eventually admitted the truths and let go of all the lies that they experienced. They all learned to become one so to speak.
Hakeem Randall is a young teen that feels like life is becoming to much to handle. Hakeem moves from California to Detroit because, his father is sick with cancer. They could no longer afford to live in their house, so they had to move with Hakeem's uncle in Detroit. Where Hakeem's dad was offered a better job due to his illness. If there was anything he could do to stop his family from moving away, he would have done it. But the decision was out of his hands. He began to understand that things needed to happen and be changed in order to be able to live properly. In the book, Hakeem told Savon that he was sorry for blaming him for the robberies. They went home and then they went inside where everybody was arguing. They sorted things out and Savon started working at his dad furniture store. He told his dad he was a rapper, Then he went up stairs and went to sleep. Hakeem had then changed his entire personality and was the change he experienced.
Savon is Hakeem's cousin. They were very close when they were younger, however they have lost contact. While they're in Detroit, Savon and Hakeem don't get along that well and turns up that they got into a fight and everyone thinks Savon is up to no good. When Hakeem got there he wondered why Savon was being mean to him. Savon had been sneaking around came home late at night. So Uncle James asked him to find out what Savon was up to. There had been robberies almost all the stores on Main Street except his father furniture store , the store where Hakeem does all his requirement work at. They then found out later that Savon was not the one robbing it, and then Savon and Hakeem stopped fighting and they both changed and became family.
Hakeem meets a young lady named Anika. Anika seems to be
hiding something from Hakeem. She seems to be hiding things from Hakeem. Anika's grandma is getting put in a nursery home. Anika moves to California because she doesn't want to get put in foster home. She gets taught by Hakeem to play guitar, after clapping for him when they were out back one day and he was playing guitar. He instantly felt attracted to her. She persuaded him to by her a big necklace, and to get him to write an essay for her, when all along she was cheating on him. Hakeem finally learned the truth
