Book Review of Who Moved My Cheese?

Who Moved My Cheese? By Dr. Spencer Johnson is a simple story about a complex subject. That is the fear of change. Dr. Johnson delivers a message to people about how to deal with and manage fear, not only in business, but everyday life. This book is similar to a parable that can aid in the reader's journey toward change.

This book is a book about change, the fear of change, and how to deal with change. Who Moved My Cheese? takes place in a maze. The main characters are two little people called Hem and Haw along with two mice named Sniff and Scurry. They spend their days running through the maze in search of cheese. One day they came upon their ultimate goal, a massive supply of cheese at Cheese Station C. There is an abundant supply of cheese to be had, so they settle in to enjoy their feast. One day the mice arrived to eat and the cheese was all gone. The mice immediately put on their running shoes and left in search of new cheese. When Hem and Haw arrived to find that there was no cheese, they were in shock and reacted with fear and anger. They decided to stay at Cheese Station C and wait for more cheese. The little people sulked for a while but Haw decided to go out and search for more cheese because he realized that there would be no more cheese at this location. Hem was too afraid to leave and chose to stay put. As Haw journeyed through the maze in search of new cheese, he discovered that there was nothing to be afraid of. He finally finds and vast supply of new cheese along with old friends, Sniff and Scurry, who had been there for quite a while. Haw sits back and reflects on his journey and makes plans for the future. He summarizes his discoveries by writing them on the wall and moves forward with his life, all the while hoping that Hem would follow him and read 'the writing on the wall'.

I really enjoyed this book and could not find any shortcomings outside the simplicity of the tale. The simplicity was also a plus. The story was not complex, was easy to read, and had something in it that could apply to about all people. The reader can relate to these characters and perhaps put themselves in these characters' place.

The central theme of this book is that the reader should not be afraid of change. Change is inevitable and will continue to happen forever. The meaning in the book is to not to be afraid and learn to deal with any changes that can take place. The central message is to always be prepared for change and deal with it accordingly. Everyone is different and they must deal with change in their own way.

I am a person that likes to play it safe and I really do not like the premise of change. This book helped me realize that I should always be alert and look
