Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day. By eating breakfast, one is able to stabilize their appetite until midday. Therefore, food can be considered not only an item for nourishment but an essential item for survival. The industry, for which food resides in, is a very complex, diverse, and historic trade. The complexity of the food industry can range from the penny candy store to the conglomerate that is the Pepsi Company. Millions of businesses are encompassed within the food industry. One of these companies is the Kellogg Company, which has been building upon the food industry for 100 years and has been a large contributor to the economy. It has also made a cultural impact on a global level by changing how people eat.In the United States, consumers have spent nearly $1 trillion US dollars annually on food. This is approximately 10 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (Ians, 2012). With these numbers progressively rising and showing no sign of decline it is necessary to show reasons on why these numbers are so extreme. Due to Kellogg being such a powerful contributor to the food industry, the focus of this paper will be to gain a firm understanding on how the Kellogg Company has affected consumer consumption, employment, businesses, and the economy.
