Buying my First RC Car
I was fifteen years old and I have always wanted to have a RC car. My neighbor has a RC and he let me drive it. After the drive I was hooked on RC cars and really wished I had one. That night I asked my dad if we could go to Hobby Town to go look at all the RC cars they had. I saw a few that I liked and after we got home I went online to see which one was better for the money.
The next day I and my dad went to Hobby Town and I bought the Traxxas Rustler VXL which was about $375. The moment I got home I opened it like it was the biggest present at Christmas. After I got it out of the box I wanted to drive it so bad but, the battery wasn't charged. I went and plugged it into the charger and let it charge all night. I was so excited to drive it the next day that I didn't get much sleep that night.
The next day when I got home from school I went out and drive it. I only got to drive it for a few minute and something broke on it. I was so mad at myself that I broke my RC car the first day I had it. I begged my dad to drive me to the hobby shop to buy the part that broke. I was lucky because the part was only $5 to replace it. I was so happy that it didn't cost that much to replace it. I put on the new part and drove it right away. The car had so much power that it could flip right over when I tried to do pop a wheelies.
Then I got fed up with the fact that it took about ten hour for the battery to charge, so I went back to the hobby shop and bought a new charge that was about $40. This new charger could charge the battery in just an hour and I could get about twenty minutes of run time out of the battery.
About three weeks after I broke the first part, it broke again. The next time I went to the hobby shop I bought a part that had a life time warranty on it that was about $10. Then, I let one of my friends drive it they broke a different part on it going off a jump. This part I decided to buy if in aluminum so it would last longer. This part was a lot more expensive then plastic, it was about $40 to replace.
Then, I decided that I would try to race my neighbor. My neighbor has the downgraded version of RC car than I have. When we went to race our cars my neighbor's brother wonted to get it on tap, so he taped it. We had a hose that was our starter/finish line. We raced from my barn to my apple trees. We both get a great start off the line. We were coming up to the apple tree and I had a slight lead and then I ran into the apple tree. After, I got around the apple tree my neighbor had a big lead over me and I started to gain on him but, it was too late. I lost the race by about twenty feet.
