You would think that Arabs and Muslims are the same but they are not. Arabs are an actual ethnic group. Muslims are a religious group whose religion is Islam. Most Arab Americans are not Muslim and most Muslim are not of Arab back ground. While Arabs are from Saudi Arabia and most are Muslim and this is why most hate crimes are done two both groups. They both are from Middle Eastern countries and most Americans see the two groups as the same. These countries are known as the orient, and the way that both of these groups are looked at is call orientalism. There are some characteristic of orientalism and they are Inscrutability, religious extreme, and being backward culturally. Because of where Arabs and Muslims come from they are viewed as religious extremist and because of how they are portrayed not only in America but in their own countries as bombers and killers, they are all looked at as the same. Polices concerning the two have been changed within the last two years. Arabs and Muslims are now being given the right to vote which means they have to register in order to vote. Transportation will be provided for each registered member to the polls. Actions have been taken in order to help the groups and Americans to be able to exist in society together. This would include a resolution that law enforcement agencies work vigorously to prevent discriminatory backlash crimes. In 2007 a resolution was passed condemning violence and bigotry against Americans Arabs, Muslim or Asian background. I would think that this would ease the tension between Arabs, Muslim and Americans.
