Christians and Muslims
There are so many different cultures and subcultures in the United States but I am choosing to write about the Christian and Muslim cultures. These religions have many points of similarity but are different in many ways. I am a Christian but I'm open to learning about other religions as well; this is why I chose to write my paper on these two cultures. Most of the conflict between these two cultures has been mass crimes against humanity and genocides in the 20th century. Lets take a look at some of the similarities and differences between these two religions.
It is kind of difficult to really compare Christianity to any other religion because of the wide range beliefs and practices amongst Christians. The name Christianity comes from the meaning follower of Christ (Greek word meaning Messiah). On the other hand Islam came from the meaning submission to the will of God. See the difference? Christianity was founded be Yeshua of Nazareth, (also know as Jesus Christ) and Paul. Where as according to historians, Islam is said to be founded by Muhammad, however Muslims generally regard Islam as dating back to the time of creation.
There are 5 Muslim duties: To recite the Shahadah (Islamic Creed), to perform the salat (prayer) 5 times a day, to donate regularly to charity through zakat, to fast during the lunar month of Ramadan, and if economically and physically able, to make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca. When it comes to Christianity it's a little more difficult to narrow things down to one specific duty. Some define "Christianity" very broadly as any person or group who sincerely believes them to be Christian. Although it seems there are so differences in the two similarly to Christianity, Islam is divided into many different traditions and minority groups. Christianity is currently the largest religion in the world, but Islam has been growing rapidly.
