By: Rachel Hanson
"Cinderella man" takes place in New Jersey and New York, where a boxer named jimmy Braddock comes to life. In this movie a man loses his boxing license but comes back stronger giving people who in a time of such despair. Life during the great depression was hard and people often lost hope. Until James. J. Braddock brought it back with his skill of boxing and his big heart. In the movie "Cinderella Man" it shows historical background as well as great acting and relationships.
The characters in this movie were unbelievable. I think that Russell Crowe did a fantastic job playing Jimmy Braddock. He makes the character believable and gives the audience that heartfelt feeling of love and care with a fighting spirit. James Braddock is a man who would do anything for his family. In the movie when he had lost his kids he begged the richer people to lend him some money so that he could get them even though it caused him great embarrassment. John Gould played by Paul Giamadi was an extravagant character and one of my favorites. He is the coach and friend of Jimmy Braddock gives an exciting and poppy feeling to the movie. Being not only his coach but his friend John gave jimmy a second chance; the chance of a lifetime.
Life during the great depression was hard for many people. Many lost their homes or had to give up their kids. Some even unfortunately lost their lives. The people who lost their homes went into what is known as a hoover town. A hoover town is a place where people built huts that they lived in. They were named hoover towns after President Herbert Hoover. There was one in central park, New York City which surprised me the most. In the movie Jimmy's friend went to a hoover town to help out.
The relationships between the characters were hard especially because of the great depression. People were worked to the limit and their relationships were put to the test. I believe that the relationship tested the most was between Mae and Jimmy Braddock. They were put in tough situations where they both had to make sacrifices. Some even that they didn't agree on but, if they didn't then their life wouldn't have turned out as it did.
In this movie the "Cinderella Man" the historical background, the acting, and the relationships were extraordinaire. Ron Howard really made this story fly. He took facts about James. J. Braddock's life and turned it into a movie using exceptional actors and actresses. This movie is worth seeing because its filled with emotion that will having everyone's hearts soaring along with the ups and downs of the movie.
