Post Mortems

When doing a review after a project is completed the benefit is in my opinion outweighs the draw back. Something that is overlooked is going through the review when there was a problem. This could not be furthest from the truth. When a project is complete and everything was amazingly great early finish and under budget, it is begging to be reviewed. It is imperative to find out why your project went as well as it did. It needs to be noted who came through and how they did it. Then after all the relevant data is collected it should be dispersed with in your company in order to promote the practices of success. If the choices was put before me to review wins or loses I would chose wins.

The other end of the spectrum is projects that do fail or fall short of the goal set. When this happens the downside is clearly is the restructure, someone will have to take the hit. Then on to step to and talk to all the people who know what happened out loud in front of everyone. Everyone gets a voice, you want the truth. It is imperative that everyone hears what happened and suggestions should be taken on how to prevent the fault. This is the place where feats are celebrated or stoned. There is no name calling, this is about growth as a team so no punches a held back. The truth hurts sometimes, but it must be the truth.

Analytics

When discussing the truth the information should be relevant to the discussion. On time and under budget, it does not matter the whole process should be discussed. Just because everything went perfect and according to plan does not mean that there is no room for improvement a way to save, or maybe a way to do it faster. We could even venture down the road of paying more but getting more as well. In the end we all in the IT world want what is best for the business. In order to do that, we must always look at the work done. Look to see what we can do better. It is what our world is built upon. A process
