This movie was based off a true story an also was a book. I got out of this movie that it's much more to life than trying to have fun and be in crowd and when you're serious and dedicated to something you'll do anything to be a part of it.
Coach Carter was a successful sport store owner, and was offered a job at Richmond High as a basketball coach which was also his old high school. Walking into this school where kids were very disrespectful and they actually also stepped off on the wrong foot with Coach Carter. Coach Carter immediately put down some rules and requirements to be a part of the team, some of the players on the team didn't agree with the rules and just gave up on the team and quit. Soon the team got use to the rules and started playing games and became undefeated. Coach Carter saw that the team grades and attendance slowly went down. Immediately Coach Carter took action and put the gym and all other basketball related activities on lock down until the team gets back on track academically and attends all they're classes. The local community disagreed with Coach Carters decision but he still stood on what he thought was right and didn't change his thought on the lock down. The school was surrounded by a lot of public attention. Aside of that Kenyon and Kyra was having their own problems because Kyra is pregnant with a baby by Kenyon and they're relationship is struggling and going straight down hill, neither of them have a definite plan after high school as in decisions with the baby and also what they're going to do as a profession and of course Kenyon going to need a backup plan for basketball. There was a board meeting about the lock down and how the parents in the community thought about the gym being closed at Richmond High there was a vote among the head people of Richmond High and they decided that the gym should be open. As Coach Carter is walking into the school to collect his stuff to leave his position as coach at Richmond High and he looks down and notices the thick chain and lock that was once wrapped around the doors of the gym sealing the door shut was laying on the ground he opened the door of the gym and to his surprise there was all those players that was once against all of the rules Coach Cater put down sitting at desk reading to complete their work and go back and play the fair way. He inspires them to do better academically and even when the gym is unlocked and the players are allowed back in, they continue to work on their work they need to get done. They do this because they have been inspired by him. In fact they even look up to him as a role model now. He changed them for the better and made them realize the right choices they needed to make for themselves. In the movie coach mentions that, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step... Average is just not good enough AT ALL". This quote really stuck with me because sometimes when
