Discord between behavior and belief

The distressing mental state that people feel when they "find themselves doing things that don't fit with what they know ,or having opinions that do not fit with other opinion they hold. That mean the theory on cognitive dissonance motivates us to change either our behavior or our belief in an effort to avoid that distressing feeling.

Cognitive dissonance being with the idea that the communicator carries around a rich assortment cognitive element (attitude ,perception, knowledge and behaviors) relate to one another within a system.

Reducing dissonance between action and attitude

1) Selective Exposure prevents dissonance

2) Postdecision Dissonance Creates a Need for Reassurance

3) Minimal Justification for Action Induces a Shift Attitude

1 ) Selective Exposure prevents dissonance

--- The tendency people have to avoid information that world create cognitive dissonance because it's incompatible with their current beliefs. We need to change and don't regard the dissonance information as a threat. Warm personal relationship are probably the best guarantee that we will consider to change our belief but is without seem threat from any medical report.

2) Post decision Dissonance Creates a Need for Reassurance

--- Strong doubts experienced after making an important, close-call decision that is difficult to reverse. This kind of dissonance we need to creating a social support network.

3) Minimal Justification for Action Induces a Shift Attitude

--- A claim that the best way change in other is to offer just enough incentive to elicit behavior. For example, we eat a bit of red meat per day will satisfy.

In the field of business management ,It is helping to solve about relevant decision-making and problem-solving.

This theory also reducing the social problem. For example, give smoker a way to advice their dissonance feeling and change they habit.

The field of education in the future will be integrated into this theory

Teacher can go through the theory to improve student's quality and their dissonance mindset.

Example

Believing that saturated fats are harmful to your health is inconsistent with eating a lot of red meat. If you still believe in good health but smoke , eat red meat and never exercise ,you are more apt to feel dissonance. This distressing feeling might change your behavior to become a vegetarian
