Each of us brings a different personality and style of learning to the table in our day to day lives. We can offer a unique perspective to each group and team we are asked to be a part of, but how we use those personality and learning styles to communicate and collaborate with our fellow team member's becomes a challenge. In this week's reading and assignments we were asked to explore our learning and personality styles to offer assistance in beginning our team project for the term. For this essay I have chosen to use the three styles I scored highest on in both sections and offer suggestions on how to communicate and collaborate with them.
The learning styles that I found I scored highest in are: Interpersonal; Musical; and Verbal-Linguistic. In the reading, I discovered that someone who is interpersonal has the ability to relate to others. Someone who is musical has the ability to comprehend and create meaningful sound and recognize patterns. A verbal-linguistic learner has the ability to communicate through language. In order to communicate and or collaborate with these different styles you need to look at the best way each learns. Someone who is an interpersonal person works best in a group, and benefits from discussing information and teaching others a concept or materials. The best way to collaborate and communicate with a person of this style is to discuss the concept with them within the group and allow them to pass that information on to others. Communication with these people would best take place in an open forum and they will not be afraid to discuss their ideas on certain subjects. A musical learner can listen to the concepts and pick up on the patterns developed within the group and they may find it beneficial to take breaks to listen to music. Communication with musical persons may involve coming up with a rhythmic way to express ideas. A verbal-linguistic learner is excellent at remembering things such as terms, syntax, explaining ideas and convincing others to get on board. Communication with this person should be done verbally and one should not be afraid of throwing ideas or words at them and letting them combine the ideas in a clear and concise manner and communicate those to other members in the class or work environment. Having all three of these personalities in a group would make an excellent group bringing excellent results. They are all able to work well with each other communicating and collaborating effectively throughout.
Along with different learning styles members of a group also possess different personality traits. I again decided to choose the three that I scored the highest in; adventurer; organizer; and giver. An adventurer has the ability to negotiate, is spontaneous, and hands-on at problem solving. An organizer is responsible and reliable has a sense of culture and excellent orientation to detail. A giver is honest, has successful, close relationships,
