Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is the expression and implementation of enterprises’ responsibility for their impact on the environment and society. Modern enterprises realize that CSR is not just the act of meeting basic legal obligations; rather it is a core business strategy that seeks to integrate consumer, environmental and societal sustainability into their business operations (Rang, 2010). Sustainability drives CSR in that companies are keen on maximizing profit while having the least adverse effects on the environment and on society. The move toward sustainability has driven greater innovation across industries. For example, a shift and commitment toward sustainable business has seen companies in the food industry such as Nestle, WalGreen and Weetabix Food Company adopt sustainable packaging for their food, and sourcing and using raw products that have a less adverse impact on the environment such as those that require minimal application of artificial fertilizers and pesticides.
