Ever since Cuba was founded in 1492 by the one and only Christopher Columbus, they have been under Spain's power. Once Spain had claimed Cuba they soon later started settling and making towns. During this time the settlers began to enslave the natives and forced great changes upon them such as Christianity. As time went on the natives began to decrease due to diseases and lack of natural resistance. There were only about two-thirds that remained. As the years passed some of Spain's other territories started to gain their own independence from them but Cuba did not. Cuba was dependent on Spain for trade and feared the rising power of the United States. During this assembly they constructed votes for presidents of this organization and sought out future plans. When hearing about this is Spanish were outraged and they responded by unleashing a war of extermination. They began to seize all weapons and began to make rules for Cuba, this was a turn for the worse. In 1878 Spain and Cuba finally signed a negotiating committee. For the next 17 years there will be great tension between the two which is referred to as "The Rewarding Truce".
