Cultural Event Paper
The Harn Museum offers a variety of different exhibitions. These exhibitions promote the power of the arts to inspire and educate people and enrich their lives. Every exhibition highlighted tradition and was use to explain the importance of art collections. The exhibitions demonstrated a wide variety of challenging, innovative, and stimulating values.
The Natural World in Ancient American Art focuses on art from diverse cultures. The cultures include Central America, Mesoamerica, and Central America. The exhibition shows how the natural world influenced these artists. The exhibitions also show the original materials used and displays various depictions of flora and fauna from ancient American environments. The portraits on display portray images of animals and plants in a naturalistic way. They also depict animals and plant as a symbolic representation. There are a number of ceramic figures, vessels, stone sculptures and jade ornaments on display. The general theme of this exhibition is capturing the world through a variety of perspectives. Capturing world through a variety of views tells stories of tradition. The artwork on display show a variety of objects used to perform rituals and to ensure fertility and good luck. One of the most highlighted pieces that I recognized was the Burial Urn, which was used in burials.
The artists that contributed to the exhibitions produce the pieces of art on display at the Harn museum to show their distinctive view of the view of the natural world. They also produced their work to show they drew from the world around them for mythology and symbols of powers. One may agree that the artist produce this work to show their view of the world around them. For example, the portrait For the Next Life: Ancient American Grave Objects by Susan Cooksey show representations of life through a very detailed perspective. One might add that the artist artwork is used to show the world the beauty of the small things that many may not notice. The world was a big inspiration to the ancient people. The sculptures on display illustrate the importance of life and tradition. One may get a sense of how the ancient people felt while they were creating the artwork. One may agree that the purpose of the artworks on display is use to tell how the world was used to inspire people of the ancient world.
The exhibition on display ties into the lessons I have learned throughout the course of the class. In the Rise of Culture chapter, we learned about the agency and rituals of cave art. The chapter described how the ancient people drew portraits on cave walls. The chapter also discussed the role the drawings played in daily lives of the ancient society. The paintings were drawings that symbolized traditions and customs in a culture. One may agree that this chapter can be related to the exhibitions at the Harn Museum.
