Cultural Experience: Indian Culture
Over the past week, I have had the pleasure of experiencing the Indian culture. I have found it quite interesting. I went by the name "Primila", so everyone in my household called me that. I actually ate an Indian dish called Chapati. That is basically bread with whole wheat flour. I also listened to a couple of Indian songs. Their music is so different compared to the United States. Their music is more of instrumentals and like sounds. It's something that I can snap to.
The whole Indian culture is something new. I watched an Indian movie not too long ago and it was about the tradition there. In the movie, the woman's parents were forcing her to marry within her culture and she was not happy at all. Eventually they all learned to accept her decision. The movie showed the family having a party. The dances they did were like something I never seen before. I also noticed the clothes that they wore. They had so many bright colors and long robe like outfits.
Also, a friend of mine showed me some pictured from her brother's wedding. Her brother married an Indian woman; they all wore the colorful robe like outfits. The bride has the little dot/mark on her forehead. The groom wore cloth like garments as well. Based on the pictures, I could see the traditional values and how important they are to the Indians.
In conclusion, I can say that I have learned a lot about the Indian culture and have seen some of the things they do or traditional things that they do to make them different from someone like me. The music, food and the videos were definitely a new experience to me. I got to open my eyes to a culture different than my own. I am happy to have looked at things from an Indian perspective.
