In Dave Barry article, "In a Battle of Wits with kitchen appliances, I'm toast"; Barry talks about how kitchen appliances are getting too advance for its users. The appliances are getting more advanced for its users. The appliances aren't getting more advanced for the better but more unnecessarily argues Barry. It's also notice in the article that the manufacturers are constantly upgrading the appliances when the users haven't grasped the last upgrade functions. In this article the use of Barry sarcastic word choice, humorous examples help one better understand just what he is trying to say and gave the article a little entertaining feel to it.

Barry article had a sarcastic tone. He enunciates "I frankly wonder whether the appliance manufactures, with all due with respect, have been smoking crack." This quote was sarcastic and yet entertaining. Barry also was calling words in question which added to the sarcastic tone. Barry kept calling "smart" appliances in question. This helps the reader to really grasp the thought and feelings of the author on this issue. Another sarcastic quote was "So when I want to watch TV, I'm confronted with a total of 120 buttons, identified by such helpful labels as PIP, MTS, DBS, F2, jump and BLANK." That was sarcastic enough. His word choice throughout the article was very particularly entertaining and appealing to the reader. Barry word choice in saying that the appliances new upgrades are frankly very "UNNECESSARILY" was more effective than putting it in simple terms. Barry word choice of saying that your appliances should be dumber than you just like your pets and furniture was affective. He could have said it in a more sophisticated tone. Barry also was calling words in question which added to the sarcastic tone. Barry kept calling "smart" appliances in question. This helps the reader to really grasp the thought and feelings of the author on this issue. But more important the humorous examples better the article. It both was appealing and captivating to the reader. For an example, "PUT THOSE DISHES IN THE DISHWASHER RIGHT NOW OR I'LL LEAK ALL OVER YOUR SHOES", was humorous that the dishwasher threatens you to clean your dishes.

Overall this article was a entertaining but informative to the readers. It made the readers think on how they don't need those need upgrades knowing they don't fully understand the last upgrade. Barry use of humor and sarcastic tone made this article so much affective.
