In order to accomplish higher productivity and effectiveness, the work, required to be carried out in manufacturing or services should be well designed.
a) Discuss the three main objectives in designing jobs
Job Design is the function of specifying the work activities of an individual or group in an organizational setting.
To eliminate inefficiencies in the process and gain effective work from the employees and machinery and thereby survive and outperform in the business organizations are forced to design respective jobs strategically. Organization can increase the both motivation and productivity of employees through the job design.
There are four types of job designing
* Job Simplification
* Job Rotation
* Job Enlargement
* Job Enrichment
There are three main objectives in designing Jobs
* Economically feasibility
* Behaviorally feasibility
* Technically feasibility
Economically feasibility
It should be very economical to carry out the production, it should help to minimize the costs like purchasing raw materials, Salaries and wages, machines and equipments and etc. the performing cost of the job is should not be high .
Technical feasibility
The job should carry a convenient work load to the employee which his mental and physical capacity can bear it should not go beyond the persons' level. The person who is doing the job must be capable to handle it with the given equipment and the system available. Proper training and appropriate machineries should given to the employees to ensure the technical feasibility.
Behavioral feasibility
the nature of duties and responsibilities that describe a job influence the perception jobholders have of themselves and their perception of other employees. When an vital responsibility is assigned to a worker, it will increase his self- esteem and motivates and inspire him to work harder. Job design needs to take these behavioral
factors into consideration, as behavioral traits and attitudes of people have a significant impact on the effectiveness of the employees and as well as to the organization.
2. Distinguish the terms " Job enhancement" and "Job enlargement"
Job enhancement
Job enhancement means escalating the scope of a job through extending the range of its job duties and responsibilities in the same field the employee is working as a example if you are the supervisor in division A and if you become the supervisor for division B, that is a job enhancement. job enlargement look for to motivate workers.
Job enrichment
Job enrichment is a method to motivate employees by increasing and varying their jobs. Organizations can minimize their absenteeism, resignation, job dissatisfaction through job enrichment.
Difference
The difference between job enrichment and job enlargement is quality and quantity. Job enrichment means an improvement with the help of upgrading and development, whereas job enlargement means adding more duties, and an increasing the workload. By job enrichment employees gets satisfied in respect to their position and personal growth potential, while job enlargement refer to having additional duties and responsibilities in a current job description.
They also hold some distinctive effects that differentiate them, such as area of expansion, mutual reliance, allocation of duties and responsibilities, motivation. Job enrichment
