Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) is a nursing honor society available to nursing leaders in 475 chapters in 90 countries throughout the world. "Through this network, members lead in using knowledge, scholarship, service and learning to improve the health of the world's people" (Sigma Theta Tau International, 2011, 1).
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) "is a home to research centers that specialize in major areas of health care research such as quality improvement and patient safety, outcomes and effectiveness of care, clinical practice and technology assessment, and health care organization and delivery systems" (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2011, 1).
The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) " is an international not-for-profit, membership based, research and development organization based within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Adelaide, South Australia" (The Joanna Briggs Institute, 2011, 1). This institute collaborates with 70 entities internationally to promote and support the development of healthcare practices across the globe (The Joanna Briggs Institute, 2011).
Each of the institutes, STTI, AHRQ and JBI, are essential in the progression and growth of the nursing profession. Research and development is crucial in any profession, but is particularly important within the healthcare field due to the care of individuals. In the healthcare profession, it is vital to be remain up-to-date on the latest technological advances that can benefit the care of individuals and allow for quick recovery time. With institutes such as STTI, AHRQ and JBI leading the way in research and development, the healthcare profession can only continue to improve and grow.
