Red light running is a serious intersection safety issue across the nation. Red light cameras are becoming increasingly widespread in the United Stated of America. There are currently twenty one known states and one territory which have enforced and passed legislation to enforce red light running with camera technology. The cameras, help communities enforce traffic laws by automatically photographing the vehicles who run red lights. (RED LIGHT CAMERAS) The use of red-light cameras can reduce red light running by motorists, also they can keep the pedestrians safe, and most importantly it can reduce the number of crashes attributable to red light running.
Many people operate their vehicles unsafely. Unfortunately many of them don't pay attention to their surroundings. They only pay attention to themselves which often cause tragic accidents. If drivers are aware that there are cameras that will catch them violating the law, this will stop many of them from running red lights. For example there is an intersection that doesn't have any red light camera's. A car runs a red light and hits a car from behind. They call the policeman to come and investigate the scene. The car that ran the red light could easily lie and tell the policeman that their brakes gave out or there brakes wouldn't let them stop the car. No one would know what really happened, especially if there wasn't any eye witnesses to see the accident. This is why having red light camera's at intersections are very important for our communities and nation.
Many drivers feel afraid when traveling at high-speed traffic on Interstate highways. They might be interested to learn the most dangerous place on the road might just be the busy corner in their own hometown. If that nearby intersection is regulated by traffic signals, odds are that it could be the site of a serious accident. With their always being, traffic in major cities many people tend to walk to their destinations. Due to higher traffic volumes and higher than average speeds, injuries are most likely to occur during the evening rush hour between 3 and 7pm. Each year red light running crashes result in nearly 1,000 deaths and about 90,000 injuries nationally.( News, 3. "Red Light Cameras Effective) There are all types of people that drive, old people, young people, handicap people, and drunk people. Knowing that these kind of people are on the road, we have to not drive only for ourselves but for others. Camera companies argue that the cameras save lives and ultimately cut costs.
