Dr. Z. Randall Stroope was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Z. Randall Stroope got his masters in vocal performance at the University of Colorado. His name is familiar to many choir teachers. Dr. Stroope is one of the most active choral composers working today. He was written many songs and is widely known. He is also a conductor and has many recent performances all around the world.
Dr. Z. Randall Stroope has published 95 songs with Alliance, Walton, Colla Voce, and MorningStar and Heritage Music Press. His compositions sell over 200,000 copies a year. His songs are performed regularly by ensembles around the world. His compositions have been performed by professional ensembles in the United States, France, Holland, Hong Kong, Spain, Japan, Australia, the Czech Republic, and Canada.
Some of his best known compositions include Lamentaciones de Jeremias, Amor de mi Alma, Conversion of Saul, Psalm 23, Fanfare, Sanctus, We Beheld Once Again the Stars, Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day, Caritas et Amor, Tournez Tournez, There is no Rose, Homeland, How Can I Keep from Singing, Sure on this Shining Night, Allegro Molto, With Quiet Awe, Allegretto, The Pasture, Resonet in Laudibus, All so Still, American Rhapsody, Lux Aeterna, I Had a Paint Box, Let Us Go in the House of the Lord, Inscription of Hope, Ode to Joy, Winter, Ombra mai fu, Lascia ch'ui piango, The Poet SIngs, Joy Shall be Yours in the Morning, Sicut Cervus, A Sun-Day Hymn, Dona Nobis Pacem, Omnia Sol, I Am Not Yours, Prelude to Peace, Old Horatius Had a Farm, We Praise Thee, The Angels Song, Sanctus, To God our Strength, Like a Feathered Dove, Vouchsafe. Dr. Stroope is also very famous for his conducting. His conducting experieence includes the American School in Singapore, Canterbury Cathedral in England, Salzburger Dom in Austria, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Vancouver Symphony in British Columbia, and three performances at the Vatican. He has toured 15 countries with ensembles including China and South Africa. In the United States, Dr. Z. Randall Stroope has conducted 35 all-state choirs, including Kentucky, New Hampshire and Delaware in 2011. He has directed 22 all-state choirs, and conducted a host of choral/orchestral works with collegiate choirs.
A few of the organizations that he was conducted or composed for include Oklahoma State University where he is the Director of Choral and Vocal Studies. He has been awarded "Distinguished Professor" for six consecutive years from 1999-2005, the only such honor ever given to a member of the College of Fine Arts at the University. also conducts the Concert Chorale and Chamber Choir there. Dr. Stroope has also been the Director of Choral Studies at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey.
