Abstract

Although public schools are main-stream and traditional, home schooling has recently been increasing rapidly. Parents are beginning to prefer home schooling and view it as an opportunity to teach self independency. Public schools promote teamwork, in which seventy-eight percent of students prefer. The parents also feel it is much safer for the children to stay home schooled rather than attend public schools that have officers walking the halls. It contains a very slim student to teacher ratio environment and focuses on the student in a more personal aspect. Although colleges admit home school students at a stricter guideline, they do score 22.8 on the ACT opposed to a national school's average score of twenty one. Not only are the home school students scoring in the higher percentiles, but also eighty-eight percent continue their education pass high school.

Finding the right education can be a very difficult choice. Weather it is for yourself or a family member, choosing the right environment is a key essential. Thus stating, the key to the future lies within your education and it is entirely at your disposal. To take full advantage of education, opportunities, internships, and academic challenges: children should be placed in a facility that has many opportunities and feeling of security, as opposed to public schooling.

Home schooling has a wide variety of pros and cons. In the atmosphere of home schooling, there is a free choice of curriculum and choice of schedule. One admired thing about being in this environment is that there is a very slim student to teacher ratio, which can teach independency of learning experience. Interacting with home schooling also brings along its own broad list of various disappointments.

Disappointments concerning home school could essentially be the thin line between approval and disproval. Some upsets that are on the list include; expenses, qualifications, social interaction, and strict college admissions. Through the home schooling process, the child may deal with a teacher that is not certified to teach a subject in which the student may be interested in learning. Colleges could view the student's profile and decide to admit in a stricter guideline.

Although being a home school student may cause stricter guidelines, public schooling doesn't require as strict guide lines as to being admitted into college. Being an attendant of public school, colleges are able to see that you're determined to be admitted. Extra-curricular activities are also available and are able to teach many life skills. Also, this provides a learning experience in a group setting, which overtly contributes to student success.

Group settings cause success due to diverse social education being presented. Presented the opportunity of working in a group environment, such as public school, the student has a chance to experience different view-points. Experiencing different view-points could open up the student's mind to a new angle of perception. Studies show that children prefer teamwork 78 percent of the time compared to a chimpanzee's preferred 58 percent.

Although teamwork is preferred among public schools, it tends to create less independence in students. Due to a high demand of exposure to the public education system, there is a high student to teacher ratio. The students are very dependent upon the public education system because the school decides the curriculum. The curriculum requirements are set and stone, but the students are allowed to choose extracurricular classes they would enjoy.

Granted the choice of extracurricular classes in public school, you may also enjoy home schooling. "Looking back on my education, I feel privileged to have been home schooled through all my school years" (LeClair). Dr. Thomas Smedley believes that home school students have superior socialization skills. NHERI reports that the students participate in five different social activities outside of the home.
