The Royal Wedding, the big day was on the 29th of April 2011 and Britain pretty much came to a standstill on that day. While the Royal Wedding was over quite quickly, the political impact will be felt for some time.
The positive effect the Royal Wedding has on society is mainly the expected boost to Britain's domestic and inbound travel industry. The Royal Wedding is set to deliver an improvement not just to the tourism industry in London but across Britain. Interest in the monarchy, its pageantry and trappings such as castles and crown jewels brings in a lot of tourist revenue. The Royal Wedding will generate income in sales like memorabilia, hotels, supermarkets, food, transport etc.
Secondly - the political aspect of it. The Wedding is a great PR boost for the British Royal family. Public opinion of the monarchy has been a bit of a rollercoaster in recent years. The marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton will have a positive effect on how people view the Royal Family.
Next, socially. There were street parties from tiny villages to big cities, hundreds of thousands of Britons celebrated the Royal Wedding with brass bands, baked goods and red, white and blue bunting. Due to the long holiday break many people went for holidays outside the country.
Last but not the least is the cultural aspect of the Royal Wedding. The Royal Wedding helps symbolise the impact of the Middle Classes in Britain. Prince William and Kate Middleton's public image and their inspiring youth will do wonders for the monarchy's image in the UK and in the world. William and Kate are a modern couple. They go to nightclubs and they are outdoor people.
The negative effects are while Britons were busy celebrating their hearts out; they were missing out on an entire day of work - a lost opportunity to make money. Another drawback is that the government is actually supporting the bill for one of the biggest expenses - security.
To conclude, the Royal Wedding will probably have a positive influence on the overall sentiments of the British and the rest of the world. Also, the fact that this single event drew so much interest is a good sign for the Olympics, which London will be hosting in 2012. If the Royal wedding was able to attract so much attention, what more an event ten times bigger!
