EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

EMPLOYEE RETENTION IN A UTILITY COMPANY

I had personally always been intrigued with the concepts of motivation and had wanted to explore more about the factors that lead to the decision of an employee of staying in a particular organisation or leaving one opportunity for some other better opportunity.

This topic of “EMPLOYEE RETENTION IN A UTILITY COMPANY” was born out of a heated discussion with one of my classmates, who was adamant that it was the difference in salaries which was the driving force for shifting, as a novice to this corporate world I was unaware that while poaching of talents takes place the remuneration offered is about 20-30 percent more than in your existing job. I, on the

other hand, thought that it was rather a combination of other factors and not just pay-hike that motivated an employee to switch jobs.

Hence I set out to explore all about the factors in depth.

The objective of this project is to find out possible loopholes in the current policies and retention strategies, moreover, an attempt is made to establish whether the retention strategies have impacted job performance or not.
