Employee support schemes refer to educational and financial assistance initiatives provided by the employer to help employees to manage the non-work aspects of their lives. It also includes subsidies for dependents of employees, scholarships or educational assistance. Some examples are health and wellness programmes, flexible benefits and counseling services.

Leave benefits refer to days off which employers provide employees. Generally in recognition of important life events such as childbirth, exams, dependent care and family tragedies.

The five programmes that our company uses to help employees for work-life balance are flexi-time, shift swapping, paternity leave, family-care leave and medical and insurance coverage.

Flexi-time - Our reservation staffs can choose to come in at a later timing if they want as they might need to work till very late while waiting for those night shift staff to report for work.

Shift swapping - Our operational staffs who are monitoring the uplifting of shipments will have three shifts (morning, afternoon and night shift).

Paternity leave - Our Company's policy indicates that all the staffs will have three days of paternity leave to apply for if the staffs have urgent matters at home, etc.

Family-care leave - AS Pte Ltd have policy which indicates that there will be eight days of family-care leave for its staffs to apply each year.

Medical and insurance coverage -

Conclusion

The results from this report indicate that work-life balance is a critical business strategy that companies can employ to reduce their employee turnover, and in turn improve overall company performance. Given that work life benefits could be expensive to implement, companies should assess the needs of their employees and offer work life benefits that are valued by their employees and that also serves the needs of the business.
