According to Shavinina, (2006), an entrepreneur is someone that exercises initiatives by properly organizing a venture to explore the opportunities and decide the amounts of services and goods that will be produced. Entrepreneurs normally supply risk capital as risk monitors, takers, and controllers of business operations. In most cases, the entrepreneur is a partner, sole proprietor and has the majority of shares in incorporated ventures. Born on the 18th of February 1898, Enzo grew up with little education. According to Bradley (2009), the passion for racing cars came after Felice Nazzaro inspired him at the circuit of Bologna event. Increased persistence, passion and strong will to be successful were the reasons Enzo Ferrari excelled in the field of entrepreneurship. Many people can oppose the facts but finding and living according to one’s purpose is the best approach towards achieving the one’s destination.
Success Story
Following the collapse of the carpentry business, Ferrari decided to look for jobs in the car industry. After volunteering for some time, he settled for a job as a taxi driver and was later promoted to be a car driver. Ferrari would later abandon car driving and seek employment with Alfa Romeo. Clashing with the management led to his formal dismissal and spent the entire period of World War II making many machine tools (Carlei & Castellitto, 2002). After the world war had come to an end, Enzo Ferrari got the opportunity to make his own desired automobiles. The first Ferraris appeared in 1947 during which his entry won the Grand Prix of Rome. Two years later, Ferrari was the first in Le Mans road race, and one of his drivers (Alberto Ascari) was crowned the champion in a competition that took him only one year. Many historians at the time kept wondering how things would have worked if Ferrari won the first ever competition. The teams of the many auto designs would agree that Ferrari’s subsequent mediocrity ended up to be one of his unalloyed blessings. Ferrari became a big company that employed many people. After a series of challenges and hardships, Enzo Ferrari finally fulfilled his purpose and lived it with passion.
Start-Up Lessons from Enzo Ferrari
Firstly, Enzo Ferrari advises upcoming entrepreneurs to gain some experience by working in many other start-up enterprises. In 1921, he moved to the city of Alfa Romeo which was also a startup project (Carlei & Castellitto, 2002). Here, he obtained the basic experience and knew about various aspects of a company. Ferrari put his hands in factory production, management, and other kinds of racing. Aspiring entrepreneurs are also encouraged by Ferrari to start now whether they are ready or not. Ferrari left his earlier job to form Scuderia Ferrari where he partnered with Alfa Romeo. The firm tried hard and managed to cope with tough competition from the already established brands such as Mercedes. The quality of drivers hired by Ferrari was high and contributed greatly to its high rise and demand.
From such Enzo’s achievements, it is obvious that young people should not in any way compromise their visions. In early 1937, Alfa Romeo made the decision to take full control of Scuderia Ferrari and left Enzo in difficult situations. Ferrari was left with the choice of accepting the sporting director’s title. After being unhappy with this situation for some time, Enzo made the decision to move out. He went against the contract clause that restricted him from both designing and racing with cars for some years. The entrepreneurial nature made him to find an ingenious way of operating the cars. Immediately, he started to supply car parts for teams that were happy with the quality. From the challenges he experienced, Enzo Ferrari advises young entrepreneurs to never back down (Baglieri, Secchi, & Croom, 2007). After managing to find a means of designing and manufacturing cars, he made two that took part in the Mille Miglia races of 1940. The same period was followed by World War II that forced Enzo to undertake war production jobs for Mussolini. Another setback was that the factory was bombed by allies but later managed to reclaim Ferrari after the war came to an end.
