The Warrior Ethos is a set of principles by which every Soldier lives. In a broader sense, the Warrior Ethos is a way of life that applies to our personal and professional lives as well. They define who we are and who we aspire to become.

The Army has worked to instill the Warrior Ethos in all our Soldiers by the way we train, live, and fight. Every Soldier that has entered Basic Training has been taught that the Warrior Ethos, rooted in Army values, and founded on the premise that service to our Nation is an honor and a responsibility that requires self-sacrifice. The very notion of service is founded on the premise that you give more than you get. This ethos has enabled our Soldiers to endure the rigors of combat and distinguish our Army on the battlefield by the character of our service.

Respect is an important value that an army must possess. The golden rule best exemplifies the idea of respect. In the US Soldier's code, treat people as they should be treated. A soldier is expected to treat other people with dignity and respect. This allows him the Soldier to gain the same treatment from other people. This begins with a basic understanding that every Soldier is worthy to be respected as human beings. A leader will not gain respect if the leader shows superiority over his subordinates.

Selfless Service is the epitome of esprit de corps. That is why we are in the military - we are defending the freedom of the American people at the risk of our own lives. It also is seen when a Soldier helps out another Soldier for no personal gain.
