Euthanasia
Euthanasia has cause many concerns for people around the world for a while now. But it seems like the doctors who give the euthanasia to newborns with diseases like spina bifida, support it (Lallanilla 1). The article also makes this statement:
Two doctors in the Netherlands believe they know. They have developed a checklist that would allow doctors and families to determine whether a newborn is suffering so greatly, and without hope of a cure, that death would be a mercy. (Lallanilla 1)
But like most decisions made in the medical field, euthanasia is one of the hardest for not only the families but also for the doctors giving the treatment. As it said in the article, "especially when it involves those who cannot speak for themselves" (Lallanilla 1). But now for safety reasons a checklist has been created by two Dutch doctors for the process of euthanasia. This checklist states:
The parents must agree fully to the euthanasia, and a team of doctors must also agree. The medical condition and the prognosis must be clearly defined. And after the decision has been made, an outside legal body should determine if the decision was justified and if all procedures were followed. (Lallanilla 2)
Hopefully this checklist will help satisfy all the complaints made about the euthanasia process and help ensure the process to still be ethical in our lives.
