EVALUATION ESSAY

Race Matters, written by Cornel West, addresses many concerns in the black community. In particular, it shows us West's views on racism and white supremacy, and how they have shaped the black community along with many others forever. But what do college students and families nowadays think on this matter? Is racism still active among them, or has it died out? We can tell that west believes its imprinted into us now and cannot be changed. This causes discrimination and racial stereotypes in society, that are destroying minorites souls and have lasting causes on them.

Cornel West obviously believes that racism and white supremacy impose demolishing effects on minority races. These effects are here now permentantly and no amount of apologizing or attempts to fix these problems will succeed. Because of Americas past, racism has scared blacks, Asians, Latinos and many more. Because she had bad experiences as a child, doing the motherly thing, she urges her children to take caution around others. And when she means others, she means blacks. Monica and her twin sister don't agree with her mother in the least, no matter how much they go against her will. They both see living in America as a great opportunity and why should they waste it with being racist and negative? Although it is hard for them to overlook some of the racist acts against them, they still manage. While Monicas sister was attending high school, she wished to transfer school in hopes of a better education. The school system kept denying her request though, growing more and more anger and resentment inside her. She knew the only reason she kept being turned down was because of the color of her skin. The other school was mostly white and for a very high class of individuals, and although she had all the qualifications, they simply would not let her attend. Despite having to battle off racism, Monica still holds herself higher than
